life is Living

Life is Living is a campaign and festival founded in 2009, that Hodari co-founded and has produced in cities all over the United States including Oakland, San Francisco, Atlanta, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Houston, New York, Norfolk and Chicago.  Life is Living is a celebration of Life though Hip Hop, Urban Art and Environmental Activism.  It is a festival that highlights the specific legacy of Hip Hop Culture and The Black Panther Party for Self Defense.

 

Arresting Life is a Statewide partnership to bring the voices of youth out of the shadows of the Criminal Justice System.  This platform highlights testimony from young people who have been traumatized to varying degrees by their interactions with the Punishment Society.

Young Gifted and Black

Young Gifted and Black of Oakland is a youth performance ensemble that teaches Black history and pride through historic poetry, contemporary rap, and freedom songs.  They are made up of 45 youth ages 7-17 who attend 26 different schools in the Bay Area.  They are supported by 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Oakland School for the Arts, Youth Speaks, and the Office of African American Male Achievement.  Hodari is the Artistic Director, and Candice is the Managing Director of YGB.

The Bigger Picture

The Bigger Picture Project Is an award winning statewide partnership to bring the voices of young people into the conversation about the type 2 diabetes crisis plaguing communities throughout California.  Hodari has served as the leader and Creative Director of the campaign for the past 5 years, and Produced 15 films over that time.  He has also designed many of the program offerings contained in the project.

BRAVE NEW VOICES

For the past 11 years Hodari has been the Executive Producer and key organizer of the International Youth Poetry Slam Festival.  This four day 74 event experience features the best youth spoken word artists in the country and around the world performing in many of the largest and most prestigious venues in the country including The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, The Lincoln Theater, The Apollo Theater, The Chicago Theater, The Davies Symphony Hall, The Fox Theater and many others.  This festival has been featured twice on HBO in 2009 and 2011.

Life is Loving

Life is Loving is an annual festival produced by Antique-Edutainment and Life is Living, in partnership with several organizations and artists in and outside of Oakland.  The festival is a multi site, multi day event dedicated to the celebration of Black History in February.  Featured events include a film screening, a Young Gifted and Black mini-tour, Live Concerts, Professional Conferences, and a series of events focused on Black Love.  

 
 

Antique Music

Antique Music is the entertainment arm of Antique-edutainment.  This production company supports the work of International Recording Artist Candice Antique, Accapella Soul group Antique Naked Soul, and the Remember Project a non-profit organization committed to pan africanism and diasporic African identities.  Antique Music is supported by several platforms including music videos, unique music, educational curriculum and dynamic multi media and disciplinary art projects.
