Anti-Racism, Equity + Belonging
The key to rich and quality products, services and programs is diversity. Diversity offers a breadth of perspectives and experiences that make it possible to design for the spectrum of customers, clients and participants. However, diversity without equity and belonging is unsustainable. Organizational culture must shift to embrace difference and see it as a necessity for effective programs, projects and products. The e4e has spent over 50 years cumulatively developing a unique and effective approach to designing and maintaining equitable institutions.
Our approach is psycho-social, meaning that we address the internalized impact of racial discrimination as the foundation for the transformation of relationships and institutions. We understand that people write policy. People design and run organizations. Therefore, the people must engage in deep self-reflection and investigate how they have been impacted by systems of oppression and privilege to interrupt, not inadvertently contribute to inequality.
OUR SIGNATURE OFFERINGS
In this three part series, we explore the relationship between power and identity and how it shapes perspectives, manifests in interactions and influences the systems, structures, organizations and policies that we design.
For educators, we offer an additional session that specifically addresses how identity impacts the learning environment.
Book this training in person, virtually or have unlimited access to the asynchronous version.
Some say it is the elephant in the room, but we’re beyond that. Race is one of the most pressing issues in our country. In fact, the Center for Disease Control classified race as a public health crisis. The Department of Homeland security referred to White supremacy as a threat to public safety. As difficult as it can be, we have to talk about it. It appears that the future of the country depends on it. You will leave this workshop with tangible strategies for having conversation about race with adults and with children.
As an organization we have spent more than a decade E4E has been engaged in a process of investigating what helps to establish equitable organizations. We have worked with dozens of organizations providing training, consulting and tools to help them to become more equitable and anti-racist. From this work, we have compiled our best practices into The Anti-Racist Initiative. The Anti-Racist Initiative is a 7-Step System for becoming an anti-racist organization. Upon completion of this initiative, your organization will have:
Team alignment
Structures, tools and thinking frames for ongoing conversation and organizational change
A strategic plan
An Equity committee to ensure accountability
For DEI Professionals we offer workshops that are specifically for people who lead programs or conversations about race, equity and belonging. Topics include:
The Culturally Mindful Leader
Strategies for Emotional Distance in Equity Work
Facilitating Conversations About Race
Anti-Blackness 101
