Working with children and youth is complex, meaningful and dynamic. Children are growing and developing so rapidly that it can be difficult to know how to address their needs. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of Child Development including developmental stages from birth to Transitional Aged Youth and age appropriate strategies for working with them effectively at every stage.
Session 2: Youth Development 101
So many of us began working in youth development with no knowledge of its historical or theoretical foundations. Having this information can be a game changer for youth development professionals! Learn to design better systems, structures and curriculum and have more success with classroom management and behavior guidance.
Virtual: 2 hours, In Person: 4 hours
Virtual: 6 hours (2 hour blocks), In person: 6-8 hours
Session 3: Socio-Emotional Learning
Youth development is about developing young people through skill building and academic intervention as much as it is about their socio-emotional development. In the aftermath of COVID 19, SEL has become a central area of concern for families as well as schools. Our young people lost nearly 2 years of social development! We must act quickly and with intention in helping them to recover what was lost. To reach healthy productive adulthood, our young people must be given the opportunity and skills to identify and manage their emotions so that they can make better choices in life. You will leave with an understanding of the California Social Emotional Learning Framework and tangible strategies for integrating SEL into your programmatic structures and lesson plans.
